Recovering from Addiction

Persons with addiction are often confused by their inability to stop using alcohol or drugs or to stop engaging in an addictive behavior like gambling. When their cravings are low, it feels like they might be able to stop on their own or moderate their use. But inevitably, the addictive cycle repeats itself causing frustration and shame. Family members and friends become increasingly frustrated and saddened by the changes they witness in their loved one. Sometimes it seems like the person suffering from addiction has lost sight of his or her most important priorities. The good news is that, while addiction can cause drastic changes in a person's behavior and relationships, the changes it causes are not permanent. As a person heals from addiction, his or her true self returns. At Plan Your Recovery , we are committed to helping patients and families recover from addiction using a thoughtful, evidence-based, compassionate approach.

Professional Men's Program

Executives, business owners, and professionals are problem solvers and often believe that they can overcome alcohol problems on their own. If those efforts fail, the time demands of traditional treatment programs can feel overwhelming. Not every program to overcome alcohol problems requires a massive investment of time. We combine individualized counseling, pharmacotherapy, and a weekly group for professional men to support them in achieving and maintaining sobriety without the investment of time required by typical programs. Getting support from other professionals who have achieved recovery also makes it easier to achieve and maintain sobriety. If you are interested in the Professional Men's program, call 314-222-5896.

Suboxone Treatment

Plan Your Recovery offers low-cost ($99/visit) Suboxone treatment for Opioid Use Disorder. Call or text 314-222-5830 to schedule or click here to read more.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the observation that our emotions and behaviors are shaped by the thoughts running through our mind each day. This automatic stream of thoughts is like a radio that stays on in the background of our daily life. People with untreated depression hear a broadcast that is pessimistic and hopeless, those with anxiety a broadcast about everything that could go wrong, and those with addiction are tuned to a station that exaggerates the importance of drugs and alcohol and minimizes their consequences. Our thoughts shape our behavior and so the person with addiction protects his or her addiction, even if that means doing things that they would not normally do, like lying or shirking their obligations. Breaking the cycle of addiction can seem impossible to the person trapped in the illness, but there are proven strategies that help people break the cycle and become accustomed to life without drugs or alcohol.

Medical Detoxification

In order to safely stabilize, persons with alcohol or drug addiction often need medical detoxification. When you sign up for our program we will assess your need for medical detoxification and, if necessary, arrange for you to see a physician. Medical detoxification is typically available Monday throgh Friday. Medical detoxification can help you to separate from your drug of choice with minimal discomfort and risk. The vast majority of detoxification can take place safely on an outpatient basis so that you can avoid a costly and disruptive inpatient stay.

Medications to reduce cravings

Medications are not only used for drug and alcohol withdrawal but also to reduce your cravings for alcohol or drugs. You can read more about FDA-approved medications for alcohol and opioid use disorders. Watch these short videos to learn more about the role of pharmacotherapy in effective treatment and to hear our executive director discuss the difference that medication can make in the lives of persons with addiction.
