Karen obtained her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University’s School of Professional Psychology in September, 1993 and has practiced in St. Louis as a licensed psychologist since December, 1994. She has extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, providing individual, couples, and group therapy to older adolescents and adults with a wide variety of difficulties. During 12 years of her professional career she also worked part-time with Washington University School of Medicine’s Weight Management Center providing individual therapy, facilitating psycho-educational groups and conducting assessments for bariatric surgery.

She believes that therapy is a joint venture between a client and therapist and that the relationship is a strong component of effective therapy. She works in a collaborative manner with clients, facilitating positive change and aiding them in working towards goals of reducing distress and difficulties in functioning. Her approach to therapy is integrative, meaning that she integrates techniques and strategies from various therapeutic models to aid clients in reaching their goals. However, she relies strongly on cognitive-behavioral principles and approaches due to their effectiveness in helping individuals achieve positive results in a brief period of time. Her areas of expertise include depression, anxiety and Bipolar Disorder, psychotic disorders, trauma and victimization, grief and loss, eating disorders, substance abuse, dual diagnosis, and co-dependency, and personality disorders. Additionally, She is experienced in working with individuals experiencing difficulty in coping with, or adjusting to, major changes or stressors in their life, including physical illness, onset of mental illness, lifestyle changes and other challenging situations.
