Matthew Silva is a well-recognized professional in the field of addiction and counseling in the Saint Louis area. Before discovering this passion, he had a successful career working in the technical marketing field for DuPont. While this field is respected, he found very little pleasure in it. He struggled with a personal addiction which began a journey into his own recovery and a new love for life. This journey was the start of a desire to learn more about addiction and psychology so that he could assist others. Matt took an early retirement from DuPont and directed his studies into his new found purposeful life.

He studied in the fields of Psychology, Counseling, Addictions, and Business. He studied at institutions such as: Adler School of Psychology, Maryville University and Lindenwood University. His educational goals have provided him with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling and Masters in Business Administration. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Psychology.

Matt’s career endeavors have provided him with the opportunity to gain work experience from BJC Behavioral Health as a Community Support worker, SSM St Joseph Hospital as a Psychiatric Therapist, and Director/Service Coordinator of SSM New Vision Detoxification unit. More recently he served as a substance abuse counselor and Vice President of Operational Affairs for Assisted Recovery Centers of America. Matt was the co-founder of the Temperance House, which has been a successful transitional home for individuals in recovery. Matt worked an Chief Executive Officer of Midwest Institute for Addiction. In addition to Clayton Behavioral Health Matt works as a Clinical Supervisor for Bridgeway Behavioral Health, and expert witness. Matt also works as an adjunct instructor in the Rehabilitation Counseling Master’s program at Maryville University.

Matt is currently on the Executive Board of Directors for CRC’s Sober Living by the Sea as well as Eastern Board member for Missouri Addiction Counselors Association. Matt volunteers time for the LDS church’s addiction program.

Matt’s credentials include being a Reciprocal Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Clinical Supervisor, SATOP Qualified Professional by the Missouri Substance Abuse Professional Credentialing Board. He is also a Board Certified Professional Counselor by the American Psychotherapy Association and an International Certified Advance Alcohol and Drug Counselor by the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium

Matt’s affiliations include being a member and on the board of directors for the Missouri Addiction Counseling Association. A current member of the American Counseling Association, associate member of the American Psychological Association and a member of the American Psychotherapy Association.
